The shopping basket - In line with new shopping habits. In today's retail business, the shopping basket is a matter of course. As a customer, you take one from the stack and start to fill it without even reflecting over it.
But it wasn't until the self-service boom in the late 1940s that the need became apparent. The early baskets were fairly small, made of wire and revolutionary for their time.

The first plastic shopping basket - contrived by Åke Franzén (man in the middle accompanied by two gentlemen from Caddie), the grand old man of the business - was launched in 1960. It was called the Turn-O-Matic basket and was very well received: in the late 70s, it could be found in almost every shop in Scandinavia.
